How did the mock trial community as a whole responding to the COVID-19 crisis?
- For the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons the majority of the mock trial invitationals were held online as well as all official AMTA tournaments in fall and winter quarter. The national championship tournament in April of 2022 was held in-person in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Were there still mock trial tournaments?
- Yes! During the 2020-21 and 2021-22 season, there were still just as many mock trial tournaments to attend, including invitational and AMTA-sanctioned tournaments. The only difference is that many were held online.
How did UCSB Mock Trial respond to the COVID-19 crisis?
- We committed to following the safety measures put in state both by the UCSB administration and the government. As a result, we held half of our fall practices online and half in-person. During the beginning of the 2022 winter quarter when COVID-19 cases went up in Santa Barbara county we transitioned to a fully online practice schedule. By the end of winter quarter and spring quarter we were able to resume in-person practices. During the 2022-23 season we were able to hold in-person practices throughout the entire year and attended in-person tournaments year-round.
What will the 2024-2025 season look like?
- As of right now we are planning for a completely in-person season! We are planning to attend in-person invitationals and official AMTA tournaments throughout the school year. We will also be hosting our own invitational, Mocktopia, in-person in November.
